UDC Grave Marker and Iron Cross Dedication Ceremony for John C. Calhoun

The UDC Gen. Edmond Winchester Rucker Chapter No.2534 and the SCV Coffee County Rangers Camp 911 of Enterprise, Alabama, in cooperation with the UDC Emmala Reed Miller Chapter No.2694 of Anderson, SC, held a United Daughters of the Confederacy® Grave Marker and Iron Cross Dedication Ceremony for John C. Calhoun on September 29, 2013 at 3PM at Woodland Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Elba Alabama.
John C. Calhoun served in Company F, 3rd Alabama Infantry, enlisting in Coffee County on 15 September 1862. He was captured 12 May 1864 at Spotsylvania, Virginia. He was transferred 8 August 1864 to Elmira, NY and paroled 11 October 1864.
About 1850, he married Louiza Holt and was the father of five children: James Henry, George Washington, Forte, Sallie (Calhoun) Maddox, and James Thaderick Calhoun.
Calhoun’s great-great granddaughter, Helen Moore, of Westminster, SC. obtained the grave marker and iron cross that was placed at the gravesite in the cemetery.
