Touring Bishop Capers House
United Daughters of the Confederacy® recites the Bishop Ellison Capers Prayer at every meeting. Ellison Capers (October 14, 1837 – April 22, 1908) was a Confederate Brigadier General in the War Between the States, Secretary of the State of SC, Priest of the Protestant Episcopal Church, Bishop of the SC Diocese, and Chancellor of the University of the South. He lived at 216 Moultrie Square in Anderson, SC. The house was moved in the 1930’s, but is located about 300 feet from its original location. This prevented the house from being on the National Registry of historical places. It was originally built in the 1840’s. It has been modernized and is cared for by James and Elizabeth Boyer. The Emmala Reed Miller and Belton UDC Chapters, and Lee Reed Miller Chapter of the CofC of Anderson County had the pleasure of touring the house of Bishop Ellison Capers, C.S.A.
